Israel’s air and artillery strikes have inevitably [unausweichlich / wohl oder übel] hit schools and hospitals and mosques, because it is clear from some of the images of explosions that military munitions had been stored within and beneath them [aus den Bildern der Explosionen ergibt sich, dass in den Gebäuden Munition deponiert gewesen sein muss].
Hamas protects its tools of violence with innocent blood, as if in the hope that it will be shed and that its martyrs can somehow turn, through the politicized perception of much modern media, into victories.

UN Sicherheitsrat fordert Waffenstillstand und vollständigen Abzug Israels
The UN Security Council voted to call for an “immediate, durable” ceasefire in the Gaza Strip leading to the “full withdrawal” of Israeli forces, but the United States abstained [enthielten sich].
Fourteen of the council’s 15 members voted in favor of the compromise resolution worked out in three days of intense bargaining involving several Arab foreign ministers, US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, British Foreign Secretary David Miliband and French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner.
The text “stresses the urgency of and calls for an immediate, durable and fully respected ceasefire, leading to the full withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.”
It “calls for the unimpeded provision and distribution throughout Gaza of humanitarian assistance, including of food, fuel and medical treatment” and welcomes initiatives aimed at “creating and opening humanitarian corridors and other mechanisms for the sustained delivery of humanitarian aid.”
Resolution 1860 also “condemns all violence and hostilities directed against civilians and all acts of terrorism” and urged member states to intensify efforts for arrangements and guarantees in Gaza “to sustain a durable ceasefire and calm, including to prevent illicit trafficking in arms [illegaler Waffenschmuggel] and ammunition and to ensure the reopening of the crossing points (into Gaza) [Wiedereröffnung der Grenzübergänge sicherstellen].”

Kurz nach Ausbruch des Gazakriegs meldeten sich bereits offenbar Zehntausende Iraner – insbesondere Studenten – um als Suizidattentäter gegen Israel zu kämpfen.
Wie die linksliberale israelische Haaretz meldet, ist nun Irans geistliches Oberhaupt Ajatollah Khameini dagegen eingeschritten.
Dem Iran seien die Hände gebunden, ließ Khameini in Richtung Studenten verlauten.
Das ist eine merkwürdige Formulierung, da sich der Iran bislang werden von Israel noch von den USA beeinflussen ließ, um Kräfte zu unterstützen, die gegen Israel gerichtet sind.
Der Grund ist demnach in anderer Richtung zu suchen. So wie in Israel stehen auch im Iran Wahlen an. Und auch dort – wie sich die Motive gleichen – versucht man sich anhand des Gazakriegs zu profilieren.
War das Ansehen von Präsident Achmadinedschads aufgrund seiner höchst mäßigen Bilanz seit einiger Zeit gesunken, kam ihm der Krieg Israels gerade recht, um sein Profil zu schärfen. Das scheint einigen Kontrahenten nicht zu gefallen, die im Disput mit Israel und den USA mehr Schaden als Nutzen sehen und daher erfolgreich auf Khameini Einfluss nahmen, dieser Wahlkampftaktik einen Riegel vorzuschieben.
Die Hände Irans sind weitaus weniger hinsichtlich Israel gebunden, wie Khameinis Worte besagen, als diese Äußerung Khameinis dazu geeignet ist, die Hände Achmadinedschads zu binden.
