Pressestimmen

International Herald Tribune

“Victory, but no rest: Huge challenges await Obama”

New York Times

“Barack Obama won because he saw what is wrong with this country: the utter failure of government to protect its citizens.”

Washington Post

Los Angeles Times

“The nation’s capital woke up today to a political landscape … delivering to Democrats more raw power than they have wielded in more than a quarter of a century.”

GUARDIAN (GB)

Ottawa Sun (Canada)

It’s Obama time – Democrat nominee crushes opposition to become first black president of U.S.”

THE NATION
Hope and Change

“Against all odds, Obama persuaded a majority of Americans to believe in their own better natures.”

POLITICO: THE OBAMA REVOLUTION

SALON:Taking our country back

“Obama’s victory was a triumph not just for Democrats but for the American spirit and the world.”

The Star (Johannesburg, Südafrika)

Africa celebrates a dream com true

African leaders on Wednesday hailed the prospect of the first black US president entering the White House, with Nelson Mandela saluting Barack Obama for living the dream of change.

South Africa’s first black leader, the icon of the anti-apartheid struggle against whites-only rule, said Obama’s victory over John McCain on Tuesday had “demonstrated that no person anywhere in the world should not dare to dream of wanting to change the world for a better place”.

Canberra Times (Australien)

American revolution

“Barack Hussein Obama has swept away the last racial barrier in United States politics to be elected the country’s 44th president and its first black chief executive.

The election of Senator Obama amounted to a national catharsis: the repudiation [Zurückweisung] of a historically unpopular Republican President and his economic and foreign policies, and an embrace of Senator Obama’s call for a change in the direction and tone of the country.”

Al Jazeera

“It was actually the American people who are the real winners here, they are the ones who voted for a change.”

“No matter how they cast their ballots, all Americans can be proud of the history that was made yesterday,” he said, adding that Obama’s “journey represents a triumph of the American story”.

Gemischte Gefühle in Israel

“Israel expects the close strategic cooperation with the new administration, president and Congress will continue along with the continued strengthening of the special and unshakeable special relationship between the two countries,” she said.

“During Barack Obama’s recent visit to Israel, and especially during the tour we conducted together in the city of Sderot, the people of Israel were impressed by his commitment to the peace and security of Israel,” Livni said.

“National Union MK Aryeh Eldad said Wednesday that Israel should be wary of Obama, because “he is prone to buying the Arabs’ favors with Israeli currency.”
